What is NAMI Peer Council?
The NAMI PBC Peer Council is a group of peers (individuals living with a mental health condition) who meet for fellowship, education, advocacy, and stigma prevention purposes.
We participate in monthly activities in the community, such as mini golf, bowling, picnics, fishing trips, visits to museums, nature excursions, etc.
Be sure to attend the business meeting to find out about the next month’s activity and to help plan future activities.
The NAMI PBC Peer Council gives peers the opportunity to be heard in their own voice, and introduces participants to advocacy and empowerment. It also allows peers to give back to the community as a part of the recovery process.
Call (561) 588-3477 for more information. Registration is required.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free transformational 10-week course which allows peers to learn from other peers in a class/interactive setting. It provides cutting-edge information about mental illnesses and brain chemistry, stress reduction, relapse prevention and advance directives for hospitals.
Participants come away from the course with a binder of hand-out materials, as well as many other tangible resources: an advance directive; a “relapse prevention plan” to help identify tell-tale feelings, thoughts, behavior, or events that may warn of impending relapse and to organize for intervention; mindfulness exercises to help focus and calm thinking; and survival skills for working with providers and the general public.
For more information, please contact our office at 561 588-3477. This course is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of Children & Families, the Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network and the Hugoton Foundation.
NAMI Connection is a recovery support group program for adults living with mental illness that is expanding in communities throughout the country. These groups provide a place that offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope.
