Description: NAMI Smarts for Advocacy is a hands-on advocacy training program that helps people living with mental illness, friends and family transform their passion and lived experience into skillful grassroots advocacy.
NAMI Smarts for Advocacy covers:
  • Telling a compelling story that is inspiring and makes an “ask” in 90 seconds
  • Writing an effective email, making an elevator speech and making an impactful phone call
  • Orchestrating a successful meeting with an elected official
Schedule
Monday-Wednesday: 9:00-11:00 a.m. (mandatory for certificate of completion)
Thursday: 9:00-11:00 a.m. – Optional (Medication, Protecting Choice)
Friday: 9:00-11:00 a.m. – Optional (Parity – Fairness in Health Coverage)
This class will be offered online. A computer with webcam, speakers, and microphone is required. This is an interactive training, please be prepared to join by video and audio. Bring a pen or pencil and paper to class.
